Saint Joseph’s University is a nationally recognized, Catholic, Jesuit university. For more than 150 years, Saint Joseph’s has advanced the professional and personal ambitions of men and women by providing a rigorous Jesuit education—one that demands high achievement, expands knowledge, deepens understanding, stresses effective reasoning and communication, develops moral and spiritual character, and imparts enduring pride.

One of only 139 schools with a Phi Beta Kappa chapter and business school accreditation by AACSB International–The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, Saint Joseph’s University is home to 4,500 full-time undergraduates who aspire to improve the common good by utilizing their skills and knowledge to promote tolerance, compassion and social justice. With over 75 academic majors and over 900 challenging courses a Saint Joseph’s education has no boundaries — only possibilities.  For students looking for even more possibilities the Honors Program offers challenging interdisciplinary courses.

Saint Joseph's students are scholars, volunteers, leaders, athletes, activists, and friends. They spend their semester breaks volunteering in New  Orleans, Appalachia, and New  Mexico, proving that being men and women for others isn't simply an ideal but a way of life.  Within the Career Development Center, students are prepared for life after Saint  Joseph’s.  In 2007, 94% of graduates were either employed full time, in graduate school, or pursuing volunteer opportunities.

It is evident that a Saint  Joseph's education is not only earned in the classroom. It is cultivated on the fields and courts of 20 NCAA Division I teams; through membership in over 40 activities and organizations found on campus; and in the communities of the residence halls. Saint Joseph's University is where bright minds enter and great people emerge.

Campus/Location

Hawk Hill is an attractive 103-acre campus noted for its distinctive architecture, located in a suburban setting on the western edge of historic Philadelphia. Saint Joseph’s provides ready access to the vast career opportunities and cultural resources of America’s fifth-largest city, while affording students a cohesive and intimate campus experience.

Student Body

Saint Joseph’s students are a dynamic group of individuals, committed to academic excellence, as diverse in their interests as they are in their backgrounds, yet united by a drive to succeed and improve the world around them. Currently, the University welcomes students from 38 states and 34 foreign countries, the majority of whom reside on campus.

Faculty

The distinguished research faculty concentrate on teaching and approximately 99 percent hold doctoral or terminal degrees. Extended office hours and overall availability foster one-on-one mentoring relationships with students.  Through the Summer Scholar’s Program, students can earn a stipend for conducting original research under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

Financial Aid

One of Saint Joseph's University's goals is to make a 21st century collegiate education an affordable reality for all those prepared to strive for excellence and balance in both learning and living. Over 85% of our students receive merit and/or need based financial assistance. Last year alone, freshmen received more than $13 million in scholarship funds.

Academics

At Saint Joseph's, we define academic excellence by a high-quality curriculum, expert faculty, and our talented student body. Through a liberal arts education, our students learn to think critically, regardless of their majors. In the College of Arts and Sciences, students select a major among three divisions: humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences and mathematics. Whether it is through reading the classics as an English major or discussing world politics as an international relations major, students in the College of Arts and Science not only develop a perspective on the world, but also learn to use that perspective to make a difference in their respective fields.

At the Erivan K. Haub School of Business (HSB), the world's future leaders are taught by professors who reached incredible success in their own corporate careers. Students are not merely taught in classrooms but in state-of-the art academic facilities, including a Wall Street Trading Room, found in only 14 other schools in the country. Students may also take advantage of the Cooperative Education program, which integrates formal classroom training with paid work experience.  Home of the largest program in Food Marketing in the U.S. and the Pedro Arrupe Center for Business Ethics, and equipped with business and accounting programs accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, HSB sculpts its young men and women to be innovative, professional, successful, and ethical business leaders.

Community Service

For the third year in a row, Saint Joseph's University was recently named to the 2008 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll with Distinction for General Community Service. Grounded in the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis – care for the entire person – the culture at Saint  Joseph's reflects a rigorous academic experience with a focus on the community. Over the past year, over 5,000 students participated in community service projects such as Hand-in-Hand, the Service-Learning Program, Project Mexico, Native American Experience, and the Weekly Community Service Program. Saint Joseph's also offers 28 academic courses that incorporate service-learning.  Students are also afforded the opportunity for true cultural immersion and exploration through semester- and year-long study abroad programs at 27 universities on six continents.
