University of the Arts, founded in 1870 is a private, nonprofit institution offering education and professional training in visual and performing arts, with an emphasis on the humanities and interdisciplinary exploration. In addition to regional accreditation, UArts has baccalaureate program accreditation with NASAD and NASM.

HOUSING
400 students can be accommodated in college housing, which includes coed on-campus apartments. On-campus housing is for the freshman year only and is available on a first-come, guarantee first-served basis. Priority is given to out-of-town students. 79% of students commute. Alcohol is not permitted.

ACTIVITIES
There are 20 groups on campus, including band, choir, chorale, chorus, dance, drama, ethnic, film, gay, international, jazz band, musical theater, opera,  photography, professional, religious, and student government. Popular campus events include exhibitions and performances.


PROGRAMS OF STUDY
U Arts confers BS, BFA and BM degrees.  Master's degrees are also awarded. Bachelor degree programs are awarded in Crafts ( ceramics, fibers, woodworking, metals and jewelry), Graphic Design, Illustration, Painting, Sculpture, Printmaking, Industrial Design, Photography, Film, Animation, Music (instrumental or voice), Music Composition, Dance, Dance Education, Theater and Musical Theater, Communications, Writing for Film & Television, Multimedia. Dance, Music and Illustration are the largest majors.

Graduate degree programs are offered in Music (Jazz Studies), Music Education, Art Education, Museum Education. Museum Exhibition Planning and Design, Industrial Design, Bookarts, Painting, Sculpture, Ceramics.

In addition to Open Houses scheduled each Fall and Spring, the Office of Admission conducts tours Monday through Friday at 11 am (for visual arts) and 1 pm (for performing arts).

From Baltimore, Washington DC and Points South including Philadelphia International Airport
Travel north on I-95 past Philadelphia International Airport to Broad Street/Pattison Ave. Exit. Travel north on Broad Street approximately 2.5 miles to Pine Street. The University's main building, Hamilton Hall, is on the northwest corner of Broad & Pine Streets.

From Southern New Jersey and Atlantic City Area
Travel on the Atlantic City Expressway until it merges with Route 42 North. Follow signs to Walt Whitman Bridge. Cross the bridge ($3.00 toll) and exit onto Broad Street northbound. Travel north on Broad Street approximately 3 miles to Pine Street. The University's main building, Hamilton Hall, is on the northwest corner of Broad & Pine Streets.

From New York, New Jersey and Points Northeast via NJ Turnpike
Travel south on NJ Turnpike to Exit 4. Take Route 73 North and follow signs to Route 38 West. Travel Route 38 West and follow signs for the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. The exit for the bridge will take you to Route 30 West (also known as Admiral Wilson Blvd.). Cross the bridge ($3.00 toll) to the 6th Street South exit. Follow 6th Street south to Spruce Street. Turn right onto Spruce Street. Remain on Spruce Street until you reach Broad Street. Turn left onto Broad Street. The University's main building, Hamilton Hall, is one block south on the northwest corner of Broad & Pine Streets.

From the North via I-95 South in Pennsylvania
Travel on I-95 South to I-676 West. Exit at Broad Street. Follow 15th Street to Pine Street (approx. 11 blocks). Turn left onto Pine Street. The University's main building, Hamilton Hall, is one block away, on the northwest corner of Broad & Pine Streets.

From Harrisburg and Points West
Travel east on the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Exit 24. Take Route 76 East to the South Street Exit (Left Lane Exit). Make a left and cross the South Street Bridge. Travel east to Broad Street and turn left. Go two blocks north to Pine Street. Hamilton Hall will be on the left corner.

From Eastern Ontario, New York State and Northeastern Pennsylvania
Travel the Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike to I-476. Follow I-476 to 76 East. Take Route 76 East to the South Street Exit (Left Lane Exit). Make a left and cross the South Street Bridge. Travel east to Broad Street and turn left. Go two blocks north to Pine Street. Hamilton Hall will be on the left corner.

By Public Transportation
The University of the Arts is an easy walk (5-15 minutes) from the R1 Airport Train and other Regional Rail lines (Penn Center/Suburban Station), subway (Walnut-Locust Station on the Broad Street Subway or 15th Street on the Market/Frankford Line) and PATCO trains from New Jersey (15-16th Street Station).
